Nepeta 'Kit Cat' is a beautiful compact Catmint for growing in any sunny spot, with aromatic foliage and pretty mauve flowers which attract butterflies.

A more compact version of traditional Catmint, with dense, bushy shape and the same wonderful sweet, minty aroma. Its smaller size makes it the ideal choice for growing in small gardens, at the front of borders or in patio containers, where it will create beautiful, breezy purple pockets of colour with a neater, more formal look. Throughout the year, nepeta 'Kit Cat' has attractive silver leaves which provide a long season of texture, fragrance and also contrast in mixed planting schemes. With an incredibly long flowering time, 'Kit Cat' will reward you with delicate and wafty upright spikes of purple flowers which are a magnet to pollinators, especially butterflies, from early summer right through until mid-autumn. Catmint is a resilient and reliable, drought-tolerant plant, useful for dry, coastal or exposed sites but really wonderful in a more confined, enclosed garden where the aromatic foliage can fill the air with its gorgeous sweet scent.

This compact and low-maintenance Catmint is ideal for growing at the front of the border or in large patio containers.

Plant Care & Advice

Nepeta 'Kit Cat' is easy to grow in a sunny or partially shaded spot. It's resilient and drought tolerant, which makes it useful for exposed, dry or coastal gardens, but grows just as well in a more enclosed sunny setting.

This variety isn't fussy about soil type, although it thrives in a well-drained soil which doesn't become waterlogged in winter. Best suited to growing in beds and borders, in the middle of a space of around 50m wide to allow the bushy stems to spread out in summer. Also suitable for planting in containers using a soil-based compost.

Water well when first planted and continue to water regularly until established. Once established, this drought-tolerant variety will barely require watering, unless faced with extremely dry conditions over a long time. If planted in a container, water whenever the soil looks completely dry, but don't allow it to sit in wet soil for long periods of time.

Catmint thrives without additional feeding, although you can apply an all-purpose liquid feed occasionally throughout the first growing season to help it to establish.

Trim back the foliage and flowers at the ends of the summer season when the flowers have faded, or whenever necessary. You can cut back Catmint very hard, leaving just foliage at the base in autumn.
