How to: Choose Your BBQ

Make the most of entertaining outside with a grill to suit your garden and lifestyle.

These days, firing up the barbecue is a lifestyle choice as dining and entertaining at home takes the number one spot in summer leisure activities. It’s enjoyed by around 18.5 million adults in the UK, with two in three households owning a barbecue grill. From early spring to late autumn, the barbecue will take centre stage when families and friends get together for a spot of outdoor cuisine, along with a glass of something refreshing and the chance to catch up on all the news.

Given a sporting chance with the weather, an increasing number of people are even adding extra succulence to the Christmas turkey by setting their barbecue burners to roast the festive offering. So, as outdoor cooking becomes more versatile, is your barbecue up to the job? We’ve introduced new models to our range so there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a fair-weather cook or an all-year-rounder.

The Jupiter four-burner: a wide range of cooking options

Having supplied a growing – and increasingly discerning – number of al fresco diners with a range of premium choice barbecues for the past 45 years, it’s no surprise that Outback UK’s latest Jupiter 4-burner gas model is predicted to be a star attraction this year. Newly modified for this season, the Jupiter comes in a striking red and stainless steel combination, providing a stylish addition to your garden or patio and one that guests are sure to gather around.

Combining the latest in design, modern materials and high-tech accoutrements, the barbecue aims to temp taste buds by including a 30mm diameter removable centre plate to hold a pizza stone, wok or griddle. While this gives the cook that extra catering edge to satisfy any guest list, there’s ample storage space in the double-door cabinet to make the process easier.

This four-burner model really is as good as it gets, catering for anything from a small family lunch or supper to a large party of friends, with plenty of fire-up options including an extra side burner, porcelain-enamelled roasting hood and bowl, and a warming rack to keep the cooked food selection moving. Integral spark ignition, tool rack, two-tier drip tray, flame tamers, temperature gauge and bottle opener add to the facilities in this Outback package.

Ranger three-burner: a new addition to the range

If your outdoor culinary needs are a little less extensive, then the newly-designed Ranger gas three-burner model could be the answer. In a traditional country green colour with an FSC-certified wooden frame, this is another stand-out barbecue. While designed to fit easily into almost any setting, it will meet all the requirements – whether they’re basic or more adventurous – of any host. New to the 2017 al fresco entertaining scene, the Ranger offers the option of auto-igniting one, two or all three of its cast-iron gas burners, depending on the number of people to be catered for – and the extent of the menu. There’s plenty of scope in the Ranger’s new up-to-date specification. Along with a cooking area of 640mm x 420mm on its porcelain-coated cast iron grills, there’s a new side burner on which to fry or boil additional dishes, a handy side table for food preparation, a warming rack and a recessed heat gauge set in the roasting hood.

Trooper two-burner: ideal for smaller spaces

If you’d prefer something a little smaller than a Jupiter or Ranger grill, then Outback’s stylish Trooper two-burner barbecue could be what you’re looking for. In a traditional country green, the Trooper has an FSC-certified wooden frame and fixed side tables, while the roasting hood and body come pre-assembled with a built-in heat indicator and integral spark rotary ignition. It also boasts two cast-iron gas burners, a tool rack, propane gas regulator and lava rock for that extra smoky cooking flavour.

Jupiter patio heater: enjoy being outdoors for longer

Whatever you’re cooking, it’s nice to linger outdoors if the mood takes you, so to take the chill out of the evening air, why not choose a Jupiter patio heater, finished in the same red as the barbecue? The heater comes complete with an adjustable built-in table and a choice of heat settings suitable for propane or butane gas power. It’s just the thing to make those summer evenings last longer.
