Recipe: Dried Tomatoes

Dry your own tomatoes at home with our handy recipe and save money while indulging your gourmet tastes.These tasty home-dried tomatoes make a great gift for friends and family too. 

Ingredients: 

  • Tomatoes 
  • Seasoned oil 

How to make: 

  • Cut your tomatoes in half and lay them on a rack 
  • Set your oven to its lowest temperature and put your rack of tomatoes in there to cook for at least 10 hours
  • Once the tomatoes have cooked, leave them to cool 
  • Once cooled, add to jars of seasoned oil
  • You can season plain oil to your taste, by adding cloves of garlic, chillies or rind to the jar along with your tomatoes 

Top tip

Don't try to ripen green tomatoes by popping them on the windowsill. They might turn red, but they won't be ripe on the inside.

Put green tomatoes on a tray, cover them with a single sheet of newspaper and leave them to ripen in a dark, warm spot.
