Spicy Apple Crumble

Serves 6 – 45 minutes – easy 


  • 900g Bramley apples, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 85g raisins
  • 170g soft brown sugar
  • 1tsp ground cinnamon
  • 100g plain flour
  • 100g porridge oats
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 85g butter (softened)
  • Custard, cream or ice cream to serve

How to make: 

  • Heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. 
  • Put the apples, raisins, 30g of the sugar and the cinnamon into a saucepan, then cook gently until the apples are soft and fluffy. 
  • Add a little water if necessary.
  • Put the flour and oats into a large mixing bowl, sprinkle in the baking powder, then add the softened butter. 
  • Lightly rub the butter into the flour and oat mixture with your fingertips. 
  • Add the remaining sugar and combine with the other ingredients.

  • Spoon the apple mixture into a large pie dish and sprinkle the crumble topping onto it. 
  • Bake for 30 minutes until browned. Serve with custard, cream or vanilla ice cream.
