How To Sow A Wildflower Pot

Wildflower Seed

Teach your children all about wildflowers by showing them how to sow a wildflower pot. Follow these simple instructions below for a fun activity.

You'll need:

  • Large plastic pot (minimum of 3 litres but preferably much larger)
  • Gravel
  • Peat-free multipurpose compost
  • Seed compost
  • Wildflower seeds
  • Watering can with a fine rose
  • Decorating materials including pens, pencils, paint and stickers

Now that you've got everything you'll need, it's time to get started:

  1. Decorate your pot with pictures of flowers - or anything you wish.
  2. Add some gravel to the base of the pot for drainage and then fill up with compost, firming down gently as you go.
  3. Add a 1cm layer of seed compost to the top.
  4. Sow a few wildflower seeds on top of the compost and then sprinkle on a little more seed compost so that they are just covered.
  5. Water in well.
