Grow Your Own: 5 jobs for autumn

1. Tidy up strawberry plants by clearing away any straw you put around them and potting up any runners for next year. Pop the runner into a pot of compost and when they're established, you can separate it from the parent plant.

2. Plant raspberry canes now and you'll enjoy the first fruits next year.

3. List squashes and pumpkins on planks of wood to get them off wet soil - and be sure to harvest them before the first frost.

4. In uncultivated beds, plant green manures such as mustard, clover or rye grass - these will improve and turn over the soil and keep weeds down.

5. Now's the time to plant rhubard if you'd like some next year.
