Children supported by charity meet Father Christmas thanks to Dobbies

11 December, 2017

Young people who are supported by children’s charity, Action for Children, got to experience a magical breakfast with Father Christmas, thanks to Dobbies Garden Centres in Ayr and Milngavie.

The charity’s services work with families living in deprivation and face many day-to-day challenges. A trip to see Father Christmas is something they may have not have had the chance to experience without the support of the garden centre chain.

Along with WellChild, Action for Children are Dobbies ‘Christmas Charity Partner 2017’, a partnership aiming to raise more than £60,000 to support disadvantaged and seriously ill children across the whole of the UK.

Jill Wright, service co-ordinator at Upper Nithsdale Family Service, near Dobbies Ayr, said: “We all had a great time having breakfast with Father Christmas. It was lovely to see how happy the children were as they spent time with Father Christmas. All the families thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Ayr, a day out that brought so much festive joy to the children and families we support in Kelloholm at a time of year that can be difficult for many families. We are all very grateful to Dobbies for making this happen.”

Three year old Rino was especially excited to meet Father Christmas and exclaimed, “wow, I got to meet the real Santa!”

Julie Lunt, Senior Fundraiser at Action for Children, added: “Being Christmas Charity Partner 2017 with Dobbies will make a huge difference to the lives of children, families and young people across the UK. It was lovely to see children and families from our Upper Nithsdale Family Support service have such a great time with Father Christmas. Without the support of Dobbies this is something these families would otherwise missed out on.”
