Dobbies helps the UK to Sparkle!

19 December, 2013

The weather outside may be frightful, but Christmas is set to be delightful as Dobbies Garden Centres observes a growing trend towards customers brightening up their homes and gardens, with a sparkling 20% uplift in sales of lights this festive season, compared to last year.

Another booming area is personalisation, with over a quarter of customers now choosing decorations adorned with a friend or family’s name.

The top selling personalised gift this Christmas was for ‘mum’, with Olivia and Jack as the most popular first names.

Customers have also welcomed the idea of ‘Bringing the outside in’ this winter, seeing gifts and decorations with a woodland theme flying off the shelves. Twigs, trees and blossoms with glittering lights are proving popular this season, as well as fun and festive illuminating characters including reindeer and polar bears.

Katharine Poulter, Commercial Director at Dobbies said: “It’s clear to see that Christmas lights are helping to add some festive sparkle to homes and gardens throughout the country. Our customers have been going mad for personalised gifts and it was lovely to see lots of kids buying their mums a special treat this year. With our Santa’s Grotto a key feature in store until Christmas Eve, I expect we will see a lot more happy mums in the coming days!”
