Dobbies brings the X-Factor to Halloween

22 October, 2013

After a bumper weekend of pumpkin sales and a growing trend of customers shunning the typical Jack O’Lantern and turning their hands to more creative carving, Dobbies Garden Centres is revitalising Halloween by adding a dash of sparkle and pumpkin pizazz to the classic ‘devilish grin’ decorations.

Guinness World Record pumpkin carving champion, Dave Finkle is working with Dobbies to roll out the red carpet to the nation’s favourite kings and queens; X-Factor judge, Sharon Osborne, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are being immortalised in pumpkins to showcase the art of pumpkin carving perfection.

Dobbies is also hosting a series of pumpkin carving masterclasses around the UK to help customers and their families create something special for their homes and gardens.

Kicking off the masterclasses in style, Dave attended Dobbies in his home patch of Kent to put the finishing touches to his celebrity pumpkins. Customers at the Gillingham branch also received a one-to-one tutorial with Dave to create an autumnal scene in their pumpkins, with a decorative leaf patterned stencil created exclusively for Dobbies this Halloween.

Steve Wallace, head of food buying at Dobbies said: “It’s fantastic to see our customers getting creative with their pumpkins, from making unusual recipes to carving stunning lanterns. We’ve seen a real trend over the last year in decorative designs as well, making it clear that our customers are keen to make their homes and gardens really stand out and shine.

“The great thing about our pumpkin masterclasses is that they’re suitable for all ages, an activity for the whole family to get involved in!

“Having Dave Finkle on board gives our customers a real insight into what’s ‘hot’ in pumpkin design innovation which is a huge treat. His designs are a true art and I hope his passion for pumpkins gets the nation carving crazy this Halloween!”

Dave Finkle, UK Pumpkin carving champion said: "There’s more to carving pumpkins than scary faces, it’s also an opportunity to get more artistic. It’s great to see Dobbies customers are harnessing this trend. I am delighted that Dobbies has asked me to come on board to help inspire customers to create something different with their pumpkins this Halloween. The decorative stencil I’ve designed for Dobbies is a perfect introduction to carving as it’s simple but challenging, and offers the chance to let your imagination run wild and get creative!”

Dobbies will be hosting pumpkin masterclasses at branches throughout the UK, and Dave’s decorative stencils will be on hand for those that want to make their garden glitter.
