Willow & Lattice Weave

Willow

Almost any type of willow can be used for living willow structures.
Salix viminalis produces long straight rods and works well for most projects.

Lattice Weave Lattice weave
This is a good technique for weaving living structures. By planting stems at an angle, they are more likely to produce growth along the full length of the rod. The upright stems tend to sprout mainly from the top. The open nature of the weave allows new growth to be woven in easily. For extra
strength you can tie the rods together where they cross each other. If any of the original rods die back, you can simply replace them with fresh new rods.
