Most gardeners dream of achieving a luscious green lawn to enjoy all through the summer months, and Dobbies Garden Centres have a few tips to help your dream become a reality.
Summer mowing should now be well underway and in order to keep your lawn looking its best you will need to cut it twice or even three times a week. During extensive dry spells raise the height of the cut; this will avoid burning the grass and leaving large straw coloured patches on the lawn.
It is also very important at this time of year to feed and weed the lawn, using products such as Evergreen Complete; this will feed, weed and kill any moss in the lawn. If you are applying this during dry spells Dobbies recommend irrigating the lawn immediately, this will avoid any scorching and burning of the lawn.
If you have persistent weeds in your lawn, such as Dandelions, Daisies, Clover, Speedwell, Creeping Cinquefoil and the infamous Yellow Trefoil, you will need to spray or apply with a watering can, a selective weed killer such as Verdone or Vitax Lawn Clear. This should quickly get rid of all weeds although the Yellow Trefoil may need several treatments as it can be quite stubborn!
It is very important to keep lawn edges trimmed and tidied as this will stop the lawn growing into the borders. To help with this, there is a brand new product available on the market called Gard Edge. This clips together forming a strong tidy, flexible edge which can follow any contours in the garden. This will help keep your lawn edge tidy and also keep your borders free from grass.
During long, hot dry spells, it is imperative that the lawn is watered regularly. Dobbies recommend that this is done in the evening to reduce water evaporation. The lawn should be watered for several hours, this will maintain a beautiful dark green luxurious lawn (please check with local authorities that there are no hose pipe bans in place).
At Dobbies Garden Centres you will find one of the biggest selections of plants, trees, shrubs, gardening equipment, sprinklers and watering accessories around. It’s positively gardening heaven. Advice and assistance is plentiful from expert staff to help you get the most from your garden.
