Planned Development at Shepton Mallet

Proposed Dobbies Garden World - Mendip Way, off Fosse Lane, Shepton Mallet

The experience

  • We aim to create an exceptional horticultural, leisure and retail destination to inspire, to educate and to entertain through the quality of the environment, nature-inspired product and a level of customer service befitting the experience.
  • The garden centre will stock a comprehensive range of quality plants, horticultural and gardening products, garden and conservatory furniture, specialist aquatics and water gardening products, stylish homewares, gifts and accessories, all in an inspirational space and setting.
  • Horticulturally trained staff will be on hand to give advice and assistance and there will be a regular program of in-store events to educate and entertain everyone from the gardening novice to the seasoned horticulturalist, from school children to people of all ages.
  • A light and airy, contemporary restaurant with conservatory will provide a very high quality environment in which to enjoy an extensive menu of healthy eating options and home baking. The high quality produce and ingredients will be sourced locally where possible.

Sustainability

  • Dobbies is committed to using resources as efficiently as possible to prevent pollution during the building and running of our centres. We aim not only to meet regulatory requirements, but to exceed them wherever possible.
  • The refurbishment and remodelling of the former Tesco store will be carried out in accordance with the sustainable principles by which Dobbies seeks to carry out all of its new garden centre developments.
  • The ongoing management and operation of the centre will be guided by Dobbies environmental policy, which aims to continually raise the profile and practice of energy conservation, sustainable sourcing and recycling across the business.

Getting there

  • 250 car parking spaces are proposed, including designated spaces for visitors with impaired mobility.
  • Providing accessibility by means of transport other than the car is important. In this case, the site will be safely and conveniently accessible to those travelling on foot, by bicycle and by public transport.
  • Access to our Garden World will be via the existing entry (to the former Tesco store) on Mendip Avenue, off Fosse Lane.
