Planned Development at Shepton Mallet
Proposed Dobbies Garden World - Mendip Way, off Fosse Lane, Shepton Mallet
The building design
The proposed design of the buildings is illustrated in the drawings and the artist’s impression.
The exterior architecture of the former Tesco store will be refreshed and enhanced. Subtle use of new natural materials, together with existing glazing, will create an open and welcoming frontage which will reveal the horticultural elements within.
The interior of the former Tesco store will be completely refurbished and substantially remodelled to create a welcoming and inspirational modern garden centre.
A new contemporary and high quality restaurant will be developed which includes a conservatory that extends into a very pleasing outdoor space.
New plant protection canopies will extend from the existing building, creating frost protection for early bedding stock and linking the interior space with the external plant sales area.
The landscape
Getting landscaping right is very important with every Garden World we create. Where appropriate, we propose to enhance the existing mature landscaped boundaries with additional ornamental tree and shrub planting and add seasonal colour through herbaceous plant material and bulb planting.
The setting of our development is important and we aim to enhance views, both from within and out with the site. We propose that the car park in particular should be given a greener, softer feel, achieved through substantial new planting of native trees and shrubbery.
It is our aim to ensure that local habitat is adequately protected and where possible, enhanced. With this in mind, ecologically sound principles of landscape maintenance will be employed.
