‘Fresh’ £2.75million investment at Dobbies Melville, Edinburgh

Where in Edinburgh can you get a bacon roll at breakfast, meet a tarantula in the morning, feed a snake in the afternoon, enjoy a cinnamon and apple scone at coffee time, learn how to grow your own veggies, and then dine on a sun drenched terrace in the afternoon?
This week sees the launch of a new 750 seat restaurant at Dobbies Garden World in Edinburgh. One of the largest of its kind in Scotland, the new restaurant has an in-house bakery, pizza oven, creperie and rotisserie. “If you’re looking for pre-packed sandwiches and defrosted scones you won’t find them here. We’re proud of our team of chefs and their home-cooked recipes and our tray bakes and cakes are made freshly on the premises each morning by our in house team. Even our giant scones are becoming rather legendary!” laughs Restaurant Manager, Yvonne Stirling.
£2.75m has been invested overall to make sure the new restaurant is as inspiring, light and airy as the rest of the renowned garden centre. It incorporates a new deli bar, stocking wines, olives, oils and all sorts of premium treats. With a menu which changes daily and freshly cut meats, cheeses and other platters, the Deli Bar allows customers to sample goods which can also be purchased in the Farm Foodhall. There’s also a smoothie bar, offering a range of fresh fruit creations to help kick start your day.
The new restaurant’s terraced area, with seating for 250, is perfect for relaxed summer dining. But if the weather isn’t up to scratch, there’s a conservatory area plus a new specialist coffee bar, complete with soft leather couches, the perfect place to relax with a latte. The facilities can also be reserved for larger groups and private parties.
An extension to the main store area also means even more shopping space, a new children’s Outdoor Adventure Play Area and increased Free Parking. As well as having one of the biggest and best selections of plants and gardening equipment, the newly enhanced store boasts stylish homeware and accessories, gifts, books, toys and much more. So whether you’re an avid gardener, a curious novice or just looking to treat yourself – there’s something for everyone. You might even want to try one of those legendary scones…
