Decorating your home with the lights, colours and sparkle of Christmas makes this such a magical time of year.
The best way to start decorating a room is to identify a focal point for your decorations – something like a fireplace is perfect. By grouping decorations around one central feature, your room can look stylish and well balanced.
A modern way to add Christmas magic to a room is to cluster baubles or fairy lights in a bowl. They look great on coffee tables and in entrance halls and can be easily transported to make a beautiful centre piece for your table. Don’t forget your chairs when decorating your table. Try tying ribbons around each chair back and hang a decoration from the bow for a simple, stylish touch.
From Santa to Snowmen, decorating your garden within reason is not only a wonderful way to spread Christmas cheer in your neighbourhood, it also makes a great first impression for guests on Christmas day. You can find a great range of indoor and outdoor lights and decorations out there, including animated characters and fibre optics.
When decorating with lights, remember to check them before you string them up and then before you plug anything in. Try placing items in groups of three as clustering will give your decorations more prominence. All you need to do then is stand back and view your garden as a whole! You’ll quickly see what you need to reposition.
When wrapping your presents, try using a coloured paper that matches the decorations on your tree. This will add to the visual harmony of your room. Also, instead of using ribbon, why not add a sprig of holly and a curl of cinnamon for a fresh, aromatic look.
Adding games and craft activities into your mix of stocking fillers is always a winner. This gives children something fun to do whilst you’re preparing the Christmas feast or just want a moment to relax. Thank you cards also always make a lovely touch. Get the children started by asking them to write about what they liked most about presents.
