140 years of making gardens bloom
1865 Dobbies founded in Renfrew
1894 Dobbies awarded a Royal Warrant
1910 Demand for prompted a mover to larger premises in Portobello, Edinburgh
1934 Company relocated to Melville, Edinburgh where the company headquarters remain
1969 Company acquired by Waterers and sales flourish north and south of the border
1989 Company rationalisation commences
1994 Management buy out
1996 Acquisition of 2 stores in north east England
1997 Company flotation. Redevelopment of Melville Store, Edinburgh
1999 Opened new store at Dundee and acquired Baileys Garden Centre, Shrewsbury
2000 Acquired 4 Findlay Clark Garden Centres in Scotland & Clifton Garden Centre Preston
2001 Acquired 85,000 sq ft Centre at Atherstone & added Plantasia Visitor Attraction
2004 New build store opens in Ayr
2005 Opened new build store in Stirling and redeveloped Ponteland Store
2006 Acquired Grovelands Garden Centre with existing internet business and opened new build stores in Cirencester and Milton Keynes
2007 Opened new build store at Dunfermline and work commences on Sheffield store.
