Dobbies Southport Approved by Local Council
Stuart Wright, Director of Property & Development at Dobbies Garden Centres, commented:
“Sefton Council yesterday was unanimously minded to approve a new Dobbies Garden World at Bentham’s Way in Southport.
“The proposed development will now be deferred to the Government Office North West and Dobbies is hopeful of receiving a positive outcome in 28 days time.
“If this is the case, we would aim for building work to commence in late summer and be open for trading by spring 2008.”
If approved, the proposed development would provide a state of the art garden centre and an enjoyable leisure experience.
The new Garden World would offer an extensive indoor and outdoor plant and gardening area, a Farm Foodhall and Deli boasting some of the finest locally sourced fresh and organic produce available in the region, a specialist Aquatics department, an indoor range including a bath and cook shop and a large restaurant with conservatory.
Set within beautifully landscaped grounds, the new Garden World would house an innovative visitor attraction giving visitors the opportunity to find out more about plants and how important they are for all our lives. Practical and useful, the centre would be both high tech and hands on and aimed at all ages.
The second largest garden centre operator in the UK, Dobbies is know for their innovative approach in combining destination based retailing with leisure and a lifestyle experience.
As well as providing a state of the art garden centre, the planned new facility will offer an enjoyable leisure experience and an attraction to the Southport area in its own right and Dobbies believe that the new facility will have a positive impact on the local economy.
