Old hands... new ideas
Our story began in 1865. Back then, it was just James Dobbie and a handful of leek seeds. But he did well. By the turn of the century, Dobbies, as it was known by then, had become recognised throughout the UK for providing a quality all-round horticultural service, with over 50,000 customers on the mailing list for their monthly catalogue.
The company continued to grow, and now has 23 centres across Scotland and England. But the foundation of this growth, and of the Company as a whole, remains the same - horticulture. It's what we've always done, and we're old hands at it.
That's old hands, not old hat. Experience is one of our greatest assets. But we know how important new ideas are to our continued success. It's great ideas - our foodhalls, new product ranges, special events and the launch of our on-line retailing - that have helped us establish ourselves as one of the leading gardens and homes retailers in the UK.
And thanks to our continuing investments in our people, our future and the environment, we're well placed to keep this position, and to continue to grow, both next year and beyond.
